Summer is here and you are ready to take the plunge and start work on your very own backyard pool. For many, having a pool on their property is a dream come true. But undertaking such a large construction project at your home is not for the faint of heart. Getting the money together is just the first part, now comes the planning. One of the first decisions you will need to make is what type of pool you want. There are many styles of pools, of course, but which one is right for you and your family is an important decision. The 3 main kinds of pools are:

  • Above-ground pools
  • In-ground pools
  • Specialty pools

Each has their own pros and cons. But understanding a little more will help you make your final decision.

Above-ground Pools

Above-ground pools sit on the ground itself and do not require any major digging in the dirt. This can prove to be much more cost effective. These pools can can decks and patios built around them to make them more appealing. They can also be fitted with slides and ladder to easily get in and out of the water.

In-ground Pools

In ground pools require some larger scale construction like digging a large hole for the pool. This will cost you more but many prefer the aesthetic of in-ground pools compared to above-ground pools. These can be styled with landscaping and other decorations to make them very inviting on a hot summer day. All pool will need to meet Sydney swimming pool compliance rules before you can jump in.

Specialty Pools

Some homeowners would like a pool that serves a ulitity or fits a certain aesthetic that they want in their backyard. Infinity pools are pools designed with one edge of the pool being level with the water so the water seems to go on forever with ocean front views. Some pools can be designed with a “beach-like” enterence so you walk into the water just like you do at the beach. Pools can even serve a purpose for atheletes who want to swim to get a work out. They can be fitted with jets so you can swim in place and they pool won’t take up as much space in the yard. Some pools forego having a deep end so fun pool volleyball games are easy to play. Each pool is up to the owner and with some thought you too can have the pool of your dreams.
